heyyyyy, if your thinkin your a 1337 PvP person...Don't read this.....
Hey PvE's, ever notice how retarded the R6++ people are in PvE? An how they cry cause AB Gives PvE Rewards!
Dumb PvP guy -" No, its not PvP cause you not only kill other players an get Balth Faction, but you can trade faction for Jade an Amber, this is Deffinetly not PvP, right my [email protected]@3 PvP Buddies? OMG, we only got 4 New Areana's w/o having to buy Factions! Anet, you suxors, PvE has so much more stuff! We go on the same battlefields everytime, and they get to travel everywhere an buy armor, and get skins, while we sit here wasting away on the same map. Zomfg! WoW is soo much Better! GW sux, boooo! Uh O, Nightfall PvE Mostly? OMG, I hope its skills are worth of PvP, cause if there not, i'm gonna come cry more cause i'm so important" and blah blah blah.
^ doesn't make too much sence, i was just grasping at some of the retarded stuff some PvP'ers gotta say for there attention which no1 cares about. I'm R3...and i know it dont mean nufn. but it sure dont mean some R6+ is more compenant when buyin games...that is funny right there i dont care who ya are.
If they don't like GW PvP, an say WoW is better....go pay $15Dollars a month to Rez Kill some poor noob, or go play Quake, or anything....or just stay here cause you like your attention.
Now....as for you PvE'ers....it was your decision what to do w/ your character slots....go do a horse...its no1\s fault cept yours you have no slot for the event.
IMO, both PvP an PvE are dumb w/ char slots and your Ranting..I enjoy both...so yell at me an i'll just smile...however...i never have understood the point of 2-3 PvP slots....Re-rolling takes a whole 2minutes....
Once a PvP newb was talkin to me like...." Zomfg RoflCopter....you have 5 PvE's, and 1 PvP slot?!?! NOOb"
i agree...i dont go through the game w/ all chars...but i can run PvP with Every Class, multible builds, change all profs, create near ne build w/ PvP slot.....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now to get to the point on what to do w/ Nightfall....
PvP'ers, Get over it, get a life, no1 cares about your ugly emotes, live up the RPG....and the 200+Skills promised will give you your satisfaction, the new styles of your PvP, an new maps and guildhalls....and i do have one serious question.....
You play PvP for fun and killing an stuff....but cry and can't call its PvP cause it doesn't give rewards like PvE does: Player Vs. Player ring a bell?
I appreciate the GW people...an how they try to satisfy all...but when it's free monthly, all these people can play and be like: OMG ANET YOU ARE SCEWED ME OVER! you don't see people on WoW doing that...cause they pay to play, if they don't pay, they don't play...
With GW u can get mad....quit for a month, then come right back an be like, OMG GW SUXORS.....just stfu get out for good then.
i was just reading through the whole thread, and i think you guys are very rediculous on the terms of how often, and well updated GW is.

* No additional character slots for the upcoming PvP Preview weekend. (The usual "most people who want to participate will already have a PvP slot" explanation.) Remember to take items off Nightfall chars before the weekend ends, since they will be locked until release.
* We WILL get character slots with Nightfall- 4 if unlinked, 2 if linked, same as Factions.
|
I don't understand this. You can make a Nightfall preview character if you have a free slot and it will be locked after the preview is over. Why they can't give those two Nightfall slots beforehand and lock them same way because buying Nightfall will be the only way getting them back anyway. Some people (including me) are really pissed because of this. You can do PvP well even with PvE characters.

Same here. Nor will I kill off the lvl 19 or lvl 15.
No key...no see. No see...no buy. And that's fine by me.
I didn't but Factions either, and oddly enough, the world didn't end.
I've managed to continue playing Prophecies without the Factions re-tread versions of skills. Fifty bucks says I can do the same with Nightfall.

Nightfall is "Specifically designed to appeal to RPGers." Factions had a significant focus on PvP, so Nightfall will have a significant focus on PvE

I ****ing hate this quote. Please, for the love of god tell me where Factions had a "significant focus on PvP". Factions gave jack squat in the PvP department -- the only thing it gave beyond the skills, classes and guild halls were 3 cheap imitations of PvP that mean absolutely nothing to most PvP'ers and are actually just attempts from ANet to drag PvE'ers into PvP. They have no appeal to the PvP'er because they're too damn random.
Please, for the love of god show me where Factions brought anything to PvP that Nightfall isn't going to. It brought new classes, new skills and new guildhalls and nothing more, just like Nightfall is going to bring.

No offense, but if you need 26 character slots... you need to seriously reasses your life, and how much time you're dedicating to this game.

What did PvP get in Factions that PvP did not? 4 New random comp arenas and 4 new guild halls. All of which require no purchase of Guild Wars: Factions.
Now you're probably thinking "Allience Battles". However, you do allience battles by treking through PvE missions to join a fictional PvE allience. You win allience faction which can be used for controlling PvE towns, which give you PvE missions and a reduction in price of PvE items or you can use the PvE faction to buy PvE amber/jadeite to craft PvE armor.
Random 8v8: Only accessible by PvE characters. Again, it gives PvE rewards.
What pisses me off most, though, is that Factions was advertised as a game that would seemlessly blend PvP and PvE, favoring neither. Now all of a sudden after they get their sales off Factions was PvP?
Puh-lease.... If Factions-quality chapters is what's in store for the PvP crowd, why even bother purchasing new chapters? For new skills only? Why don't they just make a "PvP Edition" of each chapter, where you purchase only the ability to unlock the new skills/weapons/proffesions on PvP characters at a redused price? $30 perhaps?
What concerns me most is that Factions was A.Net's idea of a PvP based game, so what can we expect from Nightfalls? Even LESS PvP content? Is that even possible?
|
I think the way Guild Wars was originally designed to be played is this:
Create a PVE char. Beat the game. Then change to PvP modes.
It just seems like a natural flow.
Factions does the same thing, but it pushes PvP modes early , like the PvP-E missions like Aspenwood and Quarry.
Imo, Gaile is correct to say that Factions is more PVP oriented. However it is not "PvP-Char only" oriented. PvP only players cant see the PvP content as content directed to them, since those missions cannot be accessed by PvP chars.

Read there. In case you havent been paying attention. About 75% of the updates for Factions has been PVP based. 50% of that 75% seem to be tailored to the PVP whiners who wanted thier skills just so-so or cried NERF.

Lyra is correct in saying this was how GW was originally intended (Jeff Strain interview Gaming Steve); however just before Factions released, O'Brien is quoted as saying the (Anet) had then discovered that many players had no desire to play PvP and that they (players) wished to continue playing in PvE. Since then, Anet has repeated time and again that the focus would try to be on both in order to stay in business.
If they are going to be working on both, and Factions was geared towards PvP and Nightfall is geared towards PvE, we can assume that means every other chapter will cater to the other play style.
If this holds true, then we can expect Anet to push gimicks on the chapters to sell them to the "other" crowd. Factions was just given the material storage feature as a "push" for sales. I wouldn't be suprised if they do something similar to sell Nightfall for the PvP crowd.
O'Brien's interview is in Feb 2006 CGW #259

Remember Anet is a young company. Factions is only their second game.
I think they leaned too far with factions in the pvp direction and now they are leaning back to PvE again, to try to find a workable median to the aspect of what content gets put in.
Its like leveling up a pet. First you raise it aggressively for lvl 5-10. Then raise it casually for lvl 11-15.
Thats how we end up with an Elder Chapter 4....er Pet ;D

They focus on both believe it or not. For every dungeon, there is some kind of PvP addition or tweak.

pvp is kinda built into WoW, via the Horde vs Alliance aspect, however you ran into a lot of 50vs1 type pvp most of the time and usually got crushed. WoW later added the Battlegrounds, which are similar to the different arenas in GW, just larger scale.

What?
GW's PvE and PvP are both in a sorry state. Take off the fanboy goggles for a second and look at the game objectively. There is a large minority of disaffected PvE'ers and a very large minority (maybe even a majority) of PvP'ers who are simply not satified with the state of GW.
Both sides blame each other for the current state, but the problem is more fundemental. It's that this integration of PvP and PvE is killing the game. Many PvP'ers simply do not feel that the PvE portion of the game is any fun. Many PvE'ers do not feel that PvP should factor into the gameworld at large (favor, Aspenwood, etc).
It's this integration that is driving the community apart, not together as Anet hoped. PvP'ers see the game as a competitive game, much like StarCraft or Counter-Strike, in which skill dominates over grind. The current state is not like that. Without an excessive amount of unlocks, a person is simply not competitive in PvP. However, to get a decent amount of unlocks in a reasonable time, PvP'ers have to go through the PvE game at least once or twice to unlock 2-4 professions (not including runes, mods). PvE'ers don't especially like the elitism rampant in PvP games, don't particularly care for competition and would rather just enjoy the PvE experience. However, in Factions, there are many competitive missions and events that a PvE'er is forced to do to gain PvE awards, whereas most serious PvP'ers don't particularly care for these awards and view these new competitive missions as not being true PvP. Anet has managed to please no one in this implementation. PvP'ers say that their mode is being compromised by the PvE game and PvE'ers say the exact opposite. Both sides of the community are at odds with each other.
